Driving concerns

It is one of the tribulations of being Daughter #2 that many more blog posts here are about her older sister. Well, D#2 gets pride of place this morning. So, we’re all getting ready for school, and I’m trying to hurry the girls along a bit:

C’mon girls, we need to get out of here so that I can get some gas.
Daddy, Mommy says it’s the President’s fault that gas prices are so high.
No. . . it’s not only the President’s fault. [I'm great with the snappy retorts, aren't I?]
She also says he’s an idiot.
….

After I bit my tongue to keep from laughing, I thought “Well, that’s as may be.” And then I made myself a mental note (a) to tell the girls that we don’t call people names, even if they are the President, and (b) to tell the Wife to be a bit more circumspect around the kids. Adults, but not young children, can tell the difference between Bobby telling Jimmy that he’s an idiot, and a Mommy saying that the President is an idiot.

In other family news, my brother just called from the highway. Highway US95 between Reno and Las Vegas. He’s driving a BMW 3-series M3, which he borrowed from a friend who wasn’t using it. It’s a seven-hour drive, and he’s in a convertible. I have chosen completely the wrong life.

No, not really, but I was drooling.

Mommy has been very polite about the president for seven years. At $3.50 a gallon, I get to call him an idiot in front of my children.
