There are no stupid questions, just smart-alecky responses

Would you like to play Global Thermonuclear War?

It’s always fun when your alma mater gets mentioned in a news story, especially when it’s high school and it’s not in the sports section. So this caught my eye:

Student hacks into New Trier computer system

Now, besides the mention of the high school, the most important thing at the top of this article is that it came from Starfleet Command. For some unknown reason, the Sun-Times News Group has taken the abbreviation of Star Trek: Next Generation and put it into their logo.

Now, something like this happening is not new, at least since War Games, even Matthew Broderick has been able to hack into a computer network. But there must be something else to this story beyond what motivation is named in the story:

Students questioned about the suspect said he was very smart. “I heard (the student) wanted to check his class rank and didn’t know how else to do it,” said Arielle Neiger, a New Trier senior from Glenview.
